The latest addition to Torquay’s late night economy has been officially announced!
Located in the former Venue nightclub, The Foundry is set to become an event led, state of the art nightclub and multipurpose event space, hosting world renowned DJ’s, live acts and bands.
The Attic and Venue nightclubs based in Torquay have been closed since the beginning of the year, and the owners of the multi-floored, Torwood Street Scala Buildings revealed plans for a new nightclub called Decades earlier this year. The nightclub has seen a lot of refurbishments, including the construction of a new stage, a roofless area, 2 new bars, 4 new VIP areas and 2 new viewing balconies. Not only has there been large construction adjustments, many new technological changes have been made inside the club such as a KV-2 Sound system, 32 5R moving head beams, 20ft x 20ft LED video wall, 2 x twin 5 subs, 8 LED zoom washes, LED par cans, 4 x atomic strobes,16 colour changing spotlights on the outside of the building to highlight the large pillars.
The clubs are situated in the historic Scala Buildings, which was once the Victorian Shopping Arcade, and the owners say they are redeveloping the entire building to create a “multiple space music complex, offering a range of events.”
Manager of The Foundry, Alnardo Folloni, said: “We have been working tirelessly over the last two months, working alongside international promoters, brands and festival organisers to bring a series of world class events to Torquay.
“We have just finalized our launch series running up until July 1 and have 14 huge events and headline DJ’s booked in. We will be announcing the full line up next week.”
The Foundry’s official opening night is set for April 15 however they have confirmed they have teamed up with Grinagog festival to be one of the event spaces for this April’s festival the week before.
Managing director, William Hobbs, said: “We felt that the music scene and culture had become under-represented in the southwest and we believed that by taking on the old venue nightclub we had found the perfect building to invest in and reignite the regions reputation on the national music scene.
“We had been looking at other sites in the Devon and Exeter region. However we felt that with Torquay’s stunning scenery and the current rejuvenation in the local economy and infrastructure, Torquay has the potential to become Britain’s favourite seaside destination with a fantastic night time economy.”
